UPDATE ON BUNGIE'S NEW CONTEST

Go on a Spawn Spree!

I read a forum post last week that recommended we stop doing these All Stars competitions on account of keeping the Star Nameplate ultra rare. No dice! In terms of raw percentages, the Star is in no danger of becoming tarnished. Besides, how else am I gonna pad out the updates?

Here are this week's rules:
  1. Head into Forge and lay down spawn points to fashion your greatest work. You can utilize standard Forge objects as accent pieces, but spawn points must be the main event.
  2. You have from this very second until Thursday, March 24th at 11:59pm PT to submit your entry for consideration to contest@bungie.com.
  3. Use the subject line “Bungie All Star Week 11” without the quotation marks.
  4. The size limit for attachments is 10MB. Make sure you attach the screenshot itself, and include a link to the original in your Bungie.net File Share.
  5. One submission per person. Please include your Bungie.net profile and gamertag in your email.
Beep. Beep. Beep. Boop!

VARIANTS

Headhunter

The object of the game is simple: every player you kill drops a skull. Collect as many as you can and deposit them into one of the designated territories to score. First to 25 wins unless a player manages to earn the elusive “Skullamanjaro” by capturing ten skulls all at once.

Keep in mind, your opponent’s HUD will display exactly how many skulls you have in hand! Carry too many at once, and you’ll become the object of everyone’s affection. And since the territories are active at random, you’ll need to know exactly where you’re going before you decide to take a big risk.

Welcome to The Arena

It’s go time. Gone are the traditional rankings of the past online Halo experiences, in are Seasons and Divisions. Do well here and you will be grouped into flights of players featuring the best of the best, at the end of each Season your stats will be carved into your Service Record for all eternity* and subsequently refreshed in anticipation of the new Season to come.

The Arena is a brand new Matchmaking experience incorporated into Halo: Reach, aimed directly at competitive players who value competitive play and bragging rights above all else. Halo: Reach still features a wealth of other Playlist offerings, ranging from social to competitive (and everything in between), but the Arena is all about competition.

Its rules are simple:

  1. Play enough games each day to be rated.
  2. Get rated on enough days in a Season and you will be placed in a Division amongst your peers.
  3. You can check your updated Division placement in your service record each day you play after placing in a Division.
  4. At the end of each season, everyone who has placed in a Division will receive a breakdown of their Division placement in each Arena Playlist.
Note: The number of days and ratings required can fluctuate from season to season. The requirements will be relayed to you in game when you enter and play in the Arena.
Simple to Play...
...difficult to master. Though the Arena playlist is a breeze to enter, in order to understand the complexities found within it's Ratings and Divisions systems, you'll need to buckle up and brush up on your math. Nothing says bloodbath like advanced level statistics.

Stockpile

Two teams scrap over four neutral flags. Flags are scored by bringing them into your team’s designated territory and protecting them until the timer reaches zero. Flags are collected every sixty seconds.

If the flag is outside the zone, even if you have it in your hands, it won’t count. If you allow a player on the other team to infiltrate your territory and toss all your flags outside the clearly marked boundaries, those won’t count either.

There are two ways to win:

1. Score a total of 10 Flags.
2. Score the most flags in the ten minutes allotted.

Sounds pretty simple, right? It’s actually really nuanced. There’s a lot of push/pull going on and a coordinated team can employ multiple strategies to keep things mixed up.

Invasion

Invasion is a multi-phase, 6v6 Objective game mode pitting Spartans versus Elites on a variety of massively multiplayer arenas. As the attacking team successfully completes each phase, new weapons and load outs are made available, and the action intensifies as the combat moves into new sections of the battlefield.

Invasion Slayer

Invasion Slayer is also Spartans vs. Elites, but instead of focusing on specific sections of the map and the objectives each contains, you’ll be focusing on making the other team eat lead. Loadouts will become more and more powerful as the game moves through its three phases, each of which are triggered by either time or kill count, whichever comes first.

You’ll also find randomly positioned territories throughout each map. Capture them and you’ll initiate an airdrop that will be deployed 10 seconds later. Keep it secure long enough and you’ll be able to snag the spoils listed above, either weapons or vehicles. Of course, while you wait out the drop, you’re bound to attract some unwanted attention. Keep your eyes peeled. Once the bounty drops, anyone can grab it.

First to 100 kills wins.

COUNTDOWN

It was only a matter of time before even the most clandestine UNSC operations were thrust into the public eye. 4-12 players

The central launch pad provides an open route right through the middle of this facility, but successful players will likely use the many catwalks and interior hallways for safer passage. Secure the Concussion Rifle and the Sword to ensure that you and your team launch your enemy’s hopes of victory straight into outer space.

Countdown is featured in the Rumble Pit, Team Slayer, Team Objective, Multi Team, Big Team Battle, Doubles Arena, and Team Arena Playlists.

BONEYARD

The once formidable Commonwealth awaits its final destination at one of the UNSC’s ship breaking facilities. 8-16 players

Featured in the Beta as the only Invasion map on offer, Boneyard is still the place to be for large scale warfare. Suitable for the full might of the Halo: Reach sandbox, including vehicles and power weapons, expect to play a lot of Invasion, Slayer, and Objective game types in this massive industrial facility.

Boneyard is featured in the Multi Team, Big Team Battle, and Invasion Playlists.

BOARDWALK

New Alexandria’s civilian concourses provide access to rapid transit and views of Reach’s serene vistas. 4-12 players

Deceptively large and complex, Boardwalk is a vibrant and open space that requires tactical brilliance and careful navigation. The open central area provides fast, but unprotected access to the multitude of multilayered spaces that house the Sniper Rifle, Rocket Launcher, Plasma Launcher, and Shotgun. Grab them and stay on the move.

Boardwalk is featured in the Rumble Pit, Team Slayer, Team Objective, Multi Team, Big Team Battle, Doubles Arena, and Team Arena Playlists.

MAPS

ZEALOT

Covenant vessels like the Ardent Prayer are a prelude to the devastation the full fleet can visit upon a planet. 2-8 players

Use Zealot’s curved walkways and multilayered platforms to confuse and flank your opponents with a variety of tactics suited for Slayer and Objective game types. Take the lifts for fast access to one of Zealot’s many perches, or launch yourself into the cold blackness of space so you can drop down from above and deliver a deadly blow to unwary enemies far below.

Zealot is featured in the Rumble Pit, Team Slayer, Team Objective, Multi Team, Doubles Arena, and Team Arena Playlists.

SWORD BASE

Before Winter Contingency was declared, ONI spooks kept themselves occupied deep within this remote installation. 2-8 players

A large, open foyer leads to a labyrinthine network of interconnected office space. Many players will be tempted to load out exclusively with the jet pack to take advantage of all the airspace, but although the central area allows for plenty of air-to-air combat, it's also a shooting gallery for snipers and grounded players armed with the Grenade Launcher.

Sword Base is featured in the Rumble Pit, Team Slayer, Team Objective, Multi Team, Doubles Arena, and Team Arena Playlists.
SPIRE

Shielding infantry from aerial assault, these massive spires force the Covenant’s foes to fight on deadly ground. 8-16 players

Spire is a massively multiplayer map specifically suited for Invasion and Big Team Battle. Employ a multitude of vehicles on the ground, or take to the skies and fight at the top of the tower for air superiority and control of the space. If it gets too hot, take a leap of faith to get your feet back on solid ground.

Spire is featured in the Multi Team, Big Team Battle, and Invasion Playlists.

REFLECTION

Reach’s elite mix business with pleasure, building lavish penthouses atop soaring corporate ivory towers. 2-8 players

A near perfect recreation of Halo 2’s Ivory Tower, Reflection is perfect for Slayer and Objective game types. Featuring one of the most unique and impressive visual palettes ever seen in a Halo title, you'll be hard pressed to keep your eyes in their sockets as the action unfolds fast and frenetically. Snag the Sniper Rifle on the mezzanine up top and drop down to grab the Rocket Launcher and the Sword.

Reflection is featured in the Rumble Pit, Team Slayer, Team Objective, Multi Team, Doubles Arena, and Team Arena Playlists.

POWERHOUSE

Hydroelectric plants like this one provide clean, sustainable energy for the inhabitants of Reach. 2-8 players

An asymmetrical space well suited for Slayer and Objective game types, Powerhouse places Halo: Reach’s weapons and Armor Abilities on full display. Use the exterior routes to quickly acquire defensive positions and stay indoors when you secure the power weapons to force the opposition to brave Powerhouse’s multitude of blind entries and exits.

Powerhouse is featured in the Rumble Pit, Team Slayer, Team Objective, Multi Team, Doubles Arena, and Team Arena Playlists.

THE CAGE

Analysis reveals that this structure once accommodated a wide variety of sentient species. To what end remains unknown. 2-8 players

Many players mistakenly believe that The Cage takes its design cues from Halo 2’s Lockout. The reality is that The Cage was originally destined for Halo: CE and its design elements ultimately informed both Lockout and Guardian. Of course, these details will likely be lost on you while you navigate the walkways and multilayered central structure in hopes of flanking your opponents on the way to justice and victory.

The Cage is featured in the Rumble Pit, Team Slayer, Team Objective, Multi Team, Doubles Arena, and Team Arena Playlists.

PINNACLE

Even untold centuries of abandonment and neglect failed to stall the smooth operation of this ancient relay station. 2-12 players

Topping one of Forge World’s many rocky outcroppings, Pinnacle is familiar ground for any Halo 2 online veteran. A near perfect recreation of the fan favorite, Ascension, Pinnacle offers a multitude of routes perfectly suited for Slayer and Objective game types. And no, there is no Banshee on the map.

Pinnacle is featured in the Rumble Pit, Team Slayer, Team Objective, Multi Team, Big Team Battle, Doubles Arena, and Team Arena Playlists.

HEMORRHAGE

Many may call this curious gorge their grave, but the original inhabitants left only these outposts behind in memoriam. 8-16 players

Some players first experienced this space in Halo: CE, when it was known as Blood Gulch. Others first became familiar with this gorge when it was called Coagulation. Either way, control the vehicles, explore the terrain, and get your hands on the Sniper Rifle to ensure your team’s ultimate victory on one of gaming’s most iconic multiplayer maps

Hemorrhage is featured in the Team Slayer, Team Objective, Multi Team, Big Team Battle, Doubles Arena, and Team Arena Playlists.

ASYLUM

This mysterious structure’s modern day purpose is a timeless and bloody testament to its sanctimonious past. 2- 10 players

Halo 2’s Sanctuary returns, bringing competitive, symmetrical, two base Slayer and Objective game types to the forefront. Players should keep careful watch over their base to ensure that the Sniper Rifle and Shotgun are both in friendly hands, but those that neglect to venture out to the central structures will relinquish the Sword and the high ground to the opposition.

Asylum is featured in the Rumble Pit, Team Slayer, Team Objective, Multi Team, Doubles Arena, and Team Arena Playlists.
